BETWEEN SOUND AND SILENCE

Experience the Op-Doc at The New York Times

This summer I worked with director Irene Taylor Brodsky on The New York Times Op-Doc, Between Sound and Silence, exploring the impact of technology on the deaf experience through the eyes of young deaf adults. Irene has a unique perspective on sensory augmentation, being the mother and daughter of deaf people who each wear cochlear implants. The Op-Doc was born out of a longer film Vermilion Films produced earlier this year, The Listening Project.

Roles: Producer

OPENDOOR STORIES

In collaboration with Gnarly Bay, I recently directed a series of short films for Opendoor, a new real estate platform that puts the power in buyers’ and sellers’ hands. Each of these films focuses on couples and families who faced the ever present challenge of buying a home – made possible by partnering with Opendoor.

SWEETLAND CANDIES

I told the heartfelt story of century-old family business Sweetland Candies for Facebook for Business in collaboration with Stept Studios. The Naums are third-generation immigrants who have weathered many eras of challenge to create a thriving local candy store. This was part of a five-part series highlighting how Facebook helps support small businesses.

Homeless: The Soundtrack follows their first tentative months together, reunited as father and daughter, playing music as they go.

Directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky and produced by Vermilion Films & Chockstone Pictures.

THE CREEK SESSIONS

Explore more at Chaco Footwear

With Stept Studios I directed a short film about composer and conservationist Jess Kilroy who makes music using natural sounds recorded in wilderness areas to bring awareness to the importance of protecting these wild open spaces. The Creek Sessions is a sensory meditation on her process, encouraging us to tune into the sounds of the wild that we often take for granted. The film premiered at 2019 Mountainfilm Festival.

OFFLINE

Explore the journey at Columbia

Early in 2017, North Agency approached Vermilion Films to create a branded documentary for Columbia Sportswear, exploring how the outdoors inspires creativity in female artists. In this collaboration with She Explores, an online community for creative outdoors women, we traveled to the Olympic Peninsula for a week-long hike, where three artists immersed themselves in the incredible environment, wet weather and energy of each other. The film features podcaster and She Explores founder, Gale Straub, plein air watercolor painter, Heidi Annalise, and camp chef and Fresh Off the Grid blogger, Megan McDuffie. I co-directed and produced the film and content package with Irene Taylor Brodsky.
